In this guide I will describe how to repair subtitles with Subtitles Workshop program.
You can download it for free from here.
After you downloaded it, you should simply install it.
Subtitle Workshop OverviewIf during the installation you associated subtitle's file types with Subtitle Workshop, you can simply double-click the subtitle file to open it in Subtitle Workshop. If not, right-click on subtitles file an choose "Open With...". In a new window select Subtitle Workshop. May be you will need to select path to the program. Usually it located inC:\Program Files\URUSoft\Subtitle Workshop\ folder.
After you have opened subtitles in Subtitle Workshop, you will see it's main window: 
On the top of the window you can see the movie with the same name as subtitle file with subtitles. Below it located a set of control buttons. In the bottom of the window are subtitles wit the time when it will be shown and hidden. On the left you can see set of options. In popup list Mode select "Time". It will ensure that you will be seen time, but not frames. Next setting is "Input FPS". Here you can enter FPS of the subtitle file. In the next "FPS" field enter FPS of the movie. If you don't remember what is FPS, please read the previous section. Movie FPS usually will be loaded automatically, so you don't need to change it. If you see your subtitles in "gibberish", you need to change encoding. In order to change encoding select it from the first pop-up list in the bottom. If you have subtitles in Russian - select "Cyrillic", if it is in Hebrew, select "Hebrew". If you see subtitles shown twice in the movie preview, just disable displaying subtitles in VobSub or DivXG400. How to do this is described in previous section of the article. Adding delay to subtitlesIf you see, that subtitles always shown constant time earlier or later, you can simply add delay, as you did in DivxG400 or VobSub. In order to to that, selectEdit->Timing->Set delay... from the main menu. The window will open: Here you can select positive and negative delay. Again, positive (+) delay means that subtitles will be shown later, and negative (-) earlier. Enter the delay in the following format: HOUR:MINUTE:SECOND:MILISECONDRemember, that 1000 milliseconds equals 1 second (1sec=1000millisec). After that press "Apply"button. It's all. Now you can simply save the file to the desired format. I personally prefer SubRip format (.srt extension), since here you can clearly see the timing, and most consumer DivX players will be able to display this subtitle format. Click File->Save as... if you wish to change
current subtitles format, or you can simply click File->Save from main menu, if you wish to keep formatSynchronizing subtitlesStart playing the movie by pressing "Play/Pause" button. If your subtitles are shown in right time, you should not to do nothing. If subtitles shown in the wrong time, press "Play/Pause" button it the moment the subtitles should be shown. In the list below the buttons click once to subtitles that should be shown to highlight it. After that press the last button (with "S" letter). The little window will open: Here you can see the Old time and New time. Press"Esc" button to close the window. After you did it, go to another time in the movie using slider below the movie and repeat this steps for another time. The next time you click "Synchronization" button, the same window will open, but now in the list you will see two lines. Each line for different synchronization point. If you pressed "Synchronization" button by mistake, simply select the wrong synchronization point and press "Remove" button. Now you can press "Adjust!" button to synchronize subtitles. It's all! Now you can save the subtitles file. A little tip: try to select synchronization points one in the beginning of the movie, and another in the end of the movie. It ensures better synchronization. Splitting subtitlesIf your movie consist of two or more parts, and you have one subtitles file, you can split subtitles to two or more parts. Prior to splitting, you need to synchronize subtitles. Please refer to step above to learn how to do that. Before splitting subtitles, you have to have 2 movies files, and one subtitles file that well synchronized with the first part of the movie (when you play first movie file you have to see subtitles in proper time).In order to split subtitles to two or more files, select Tools->Split Subtitle... from main menu.
The window will open: If you see different window, just click "Simple" in the top of the window. Click "End of Video" radio-button. Now click "Browse..." button next to it and select the first part of video file. In the "Naming" group select names of the output subtitles files for first and second parts respectively. After you did that, select output directory and output format. Now ensure that "Recalculate time values" check-box is checked and press "Split!" button. Now you can close Subtitle workshop and enjoy the movie with subtitles. The only thing you left to do is to upload subtitle file to IsraTitles.com so other people will enjoy the subtitles you just synchronized : ) |
